If you’ve spilled water on your laptop computer then you may be in for a potentially bad situation. This is especially the case if your laptop happens to be an apple mac book, or the more expensive equivalent mac book pro.
There are a few different courses of actions one should take, these depend on whether or not the macbook was on while you spilled liquid on it. The best case scenario is if you simply spilled something on it while it was closed and not plugged in. If this is the case it is important to simply dry it completely before trying to turn it on.
If you , however, managed to spill liquid on your macbook’s keyboard then you have likely gotten it deep within the circuitry of the machine. If it was powered off when this happened you can usually let it dry and wait until it is completely free of moisture before you power it back on. In many cases it will be necessary to remove the keyboard and let the motherboard of the system dry out before turning it on. You will want to make sure this does not void your warranty, if it does it may be wise to take it to a certified repair shop.
If your computer was powered on when you spilled liquid into it, and suddenly powered itself off, this is the worst of all possible scenarios. Though it is the worst possible time to spill a liquid onto your macbook, it can be remedied. In this situation you will want to immediately power off your system. If it shut itself off it may have shorted something out, but it is possible that no long term damage was done.
Similarly to mac books many cell phone have remedies which may help solve your problem with excess moisture. If at all possible it is advisable to take apart the device. Some people recommend storing it in a container with rice or saltines as they are known to absorb moisture. It is very important not to get any additional foreign material in your device. Other known fixes include letting it dry out without taking it apart. This may even go so far as leaving it out in the sun for an extended period of time. If you do this it is important to cover or protect the screen of your device, as it was not designed to be in left in direct sunlight for extended periods of time.
